Change of Plans

I am typing from from our Super 8 room in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Our original plan for today had us wrapping up in Taos, but plans only last so long before they need changing. Paul had a flat tire today in Albuquerque which caused a delay. We both really wanted to see Santa Fe, so we decided to stay here for the night to make the most of what was left of the day.
From Taos, we were planning on heading north into Colorado, but a weather check brought on some startling results. Night time temps in the 20s, highs in the low 50s, rain and SNOW! I barely tolerate snow on foot, I hate snow in a car, and I really hate snow on a bike. So, a change is in order.
For those of you playing the Great American Rideabout home game, we will be going off script for a few days with a new plan. From Santa Fe, we will set off for Durango, CO. Then the next day on to Moab, UT followed by the next day ending at Natural Bridges National Monument. Lastly, we will end the next day in Flagstaff, and from there we will be back on track and eager for some warm weather.
Our planned route will still be cold and wet, but to a lesser degree. Wish us luck!

Addendum from Paul:
The change of plans is quite disappointing to me. Colorado, and especially US550 up through the San Juan Mountains was one of the things I was most looking forward to on this trip. We were still reluctantly planning on continuing forth when it was just going to be cold with a chance of mild non-accumulating snow. However, with a check on Ouray, CO, there was going to be 1-3 inches of accumulated snow. This just will not work for street bikes with street tires. In addition to missing US550, or the "Million Dollar Highway", we will also be missing the Great Sand Dunes National Park which seemed interesting. There is a light to the disappointment though. Mesa Verde was axed from our initial plans because it just didn't quite work miles-wise. But now it is on our way and we are going to stop by on our way to Moab!
